How Long Does Tuna Salad Last?

When it is kept in the refrigerator, tuna salad can last for around 3-5 days, but it can only be left out of refrigeration for around an hour. Tuna salad should never be stored in the freezer because the eggs in the mayonnaise can change the consistency of the salad when frozen.

The mayonnaise and meat content that makes up the majority of tuna salad causes it to spoil more quickly than other types of food that can be kept in the refrigerator for slightly longer. Along with tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad, ham salad and macaroni salad should also be kept in the refrigerator for no more than 3-5 days. As a general rule, any salad that is made with mayonnaise should not be allowed to be in the refrigerator for more than this time range. These salads are usually not properly sealed and will spoil more quickly.

Other sandwich options that can be kept in the refrigerator for a longer period of time include lunchmeat. A package of lunchmeat that has not been opened can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, but like the salads, should be removed 3-5 days after it has been opened. Lunchmeat, whether it is opened or unopened, can be stored in the freezer. It can be kept frozen for 1-2 months.
