How Long Is Thawed Shrimp Good?

The shelf life of thawed shrimp in the refrigerator is about two days. Thawing frozen shrimp at home is preferable to buying thawed shrimp from the store so that the date of thawing is known, and it allows the freshness of the shrimp to be better controlled.

Thawed shrimp should not smell noticeably fishy when purchased, but instead should smell of salt water. Thawed shrimp that are peeled and deveined before freezing have a loss of flavor and texture and should be avoided when possible. Frozen shrimp should be thawed in the refrigerator overnight or under cold water before cooking.
