The duration of a sugar rush varies greatly depending on a number of factors. Characteristics such as age, gender, activity level, genetics and muscle mass influence how quickly the body uses sugar.

The body’s metabolism is in charge of regulating how quickly nutrients and substances, including sugar, are used to produce energy. Activity, such as aerobic exercise, is the simplest way to increase the body’s metabolism. Increasing the rate at which nutrients are used as fuel for the body decreases the duration of a sugar rush. In a body that is inactive, sugar is metabolized slowly or not at all. If there is more sugar in the blood than the body needs to use for fuel, the body stores the sugar as fat for future energy needs.
