According to CBS News, a typical dishwasher has a life expectancy of about nine years. This information is important if the dishwasher requires repair. Sometimes it is not advisable to fix an older machine.

In addition, when remodeling a kitchen, it makes sense to consider the age of the appliances. If the homeowner is purchasing other new devices, replacing the dishwasher is worth considering if it is an older model. Some appliance stores offer discounts if multiple appliances are being purchased at once.

Other kitchen appliances have slightly longer lives. Refrigerators and electric ranges generally last 13 years, while a gas range is usually good for at least 15.
