How Long Does a Self-Cleaning Oven Take?

The self-cleaning cycle on an oven takes one and a half to four hours to clean the oven. Additional time is necessary for the oven to cool down before it unlocks, making the entire process last up to six hours.

Before the self-cleaning cycle is started, the oven racks must be removed and any liquid spills wiped from the bottom. Once the self-cleaning cycle is turned on, the oven locks and heats up to 880 degrees Fahrenheit for around three hours. When the self-cleaning cycle is over, the oven turns off, cools down and then unlocks the door. Ashes are left behind and should be swept out with a dust pan and broom.
