Scallops should be refrigerated no longer than one to two days. If they will not be eaten in this time, they can be frozen for up to four months without loss of quality. Scallops are prone to spoilage and should be stored in the refrigerator within two hours of purchase.

While scallops can be stored in any refrigerator set below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, it is recommended to store them on a bed of ice in the refrigerator to keep them even cooler. When purchasing scallops, look for those that are white or transparent and have a sweet smell. Avoid any scallops that smell fishy.
