How Long Does Opened Paint Last?
Last Updated Apr 7, 2020 4:59:58 AM ET
Opened oil-based paint can last for up to 15 years if sealed correctly. Latex paint can last up to 10 years.
To store paint, the EPA recommends that users keep it in their original container and that it is labeled clearly. To maintain a proper seal, place a thin sheet of plastic over the top and place the lid on. Gently hammer the lid down until it is firmly in place. When storing the paint, users should keep it in a dry place out of direct light. People can also donate or recycle leftover paint if they do not wish to store it.
