Members of the House of Representatives serve 2-year terms. These terms come up for reelection in even calendar years.
In order for someone to become a member of the House of Representatives, there are requirements that must be met. A State Representative must be a minimum of 25 years old, a United States citizen for a minimum of 7 years and a legal resident of the state that they are representing at the time of election. There are 435 members of the House of Representatives. The number of members allowed is based on the population of each state, with one representative standing for a set number of people.
