As a general rule, raw chicken can be used if left out under two hours. It room temperatures are higher than about 75 degrees Fahrenheit, raw chicken safely can be left out for a shorter time period.
Ideally, raw chicken should not be left out for any period of time. Chicken left at a temperature above 40 degrees Fahrenheit creates an environment that is conducive to rapid bacteria growth. These bacteria reach potentially harmful levels in a fairly short period of time. These bacteria cause an array of foodborne illnesses with symptoms that include nausea, vomiting and even death in extreme situations.
