How Do You Locate the Defrost Timer on a Refrigerator?
To locate the defrost timer, remove and examine each of the service panels on the refrigerator. It may be necessary to contact the manufacturer of the refrigerator if the defrost timer is not visible in the service panels. It may require an hour or longer to identify the timer, depending on its location in the refrigerator.
-
Examine the control panels inside the refrigerator
The defrost timer may be located near the light control assembly or in the control panel near the ice maker. Remove the access panel inside the refrigerator to determine whether the defrost timer is located inside the refrigerator.
-
Check the rear control panel
With the refrigerator unplugged, remove the access panel from the back of the refrigerator. Look for the front of the defrost timer or the four terminals that extend from the timer to identify it.
-
Examine the front panel
Some refrigerators, such as side-by-side models, house the defrost timer inside the front panel. Remove the panel that is located directly underneath the doors, and examine the interior for the defrost timer.
-
Contact the manufacturer
If the defrost timer is not located behind an access panel, contact the manufacturer for information on the location of the timer. The manufacturer should provide information on both new and older model appliances.
