The Turner Broadcasting System, or TBS, station is part of the Time Warner corporation and was first launched in December 1976. The Atlanta-based television network is available nationwide and has cycled through a number of names over the decades, including SuperStation WTBS and the TBS Superstation.
The TBS schedule is comprised of original shows, syndicated programs and sports such as college football and basketball, as well as NBA basketball and MLB baseball, especially highlighting Atlanta’s professional sports teams, the Hawks and Braves.
Adopting the slogan “Very Funny” in 20014, the TBS brand has specifically centered itself around comedy programs, as of 2015. TBS’s original comedy line-up has included the animated hit “American Dad!” (which moved to the network from FOX after its initial cancellation), as well as “Sullivan and Son” and late night talk show “Conan.”
TBS also airs movies during the weekend as a weekly television event it calls “More Movies, Less Commercials,” as of 2015. These movies come from major studios such as Warner Brothers Pictures, New Line Cinema and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
