What Is a Legendary Hero?

A legendary hero is a character immortalized in myths and folk tales, who is famous for acts of courage and bravery. Heracles, also known as Hercules, is an example of a legendary hero from Greek mythology, and Paul Bunyan is a legendary hero originating from American folk stories.

In Greek myths, Heracles is born to mortal parents and begins exhibiting feats of great strength and bravery as a baby. He conquers many heroic tasks throughout his life, including a series of feats known as his 12 labors. In the Paul Bunyan tales, the giant of a man and Babe, his blue ox, successfully face challenges such as clearing a river of a massive log jam and taming a wild river.
