What Is the Legal Tattooing Age in Illinois?

The legal age to get a tattoo in the state of Illinois is 18. Anyone younger than 18 cannot be tattooed except by a medical professional for medical reasons. Anyone younger than 18 is not allowed to be on premises where tattoos or piercings are performed without a parent or a guardian.

Allowing someone younger than 18 to get a tattoo or stay on premises alone is a Class A misdemeanor. A person who has not reached the age of 18 may have piercings done in the state of Illinois with the consent of a guardian or parent. These laws do not apply to anyone who is considered an emancipated or married minor.
