Is It Legal to Record Videos in a Hospital?

There is no nationwide legislation against recording videos in hospitals, notes The New York Times. However, some hospitals introduce their own policies to prevent recording videos under specific circumstances. Recording births, for example, has been restricted by hospitals, such as Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, in order to protect the privacy of staff who may not wish to be recorded and uploaded to online video sharing websites.

On the other hand, the recording of videos in hospitals has been defended on the grounds that it encourages better practice, such as washing hands more regularly during medical procedures, notes Bloomberg Business. The recording of births, in particular, is also defended on the grounds of personal rights to record a momentous occasion.
