Toro lawn mowers with four cycle engines use SAE 30 weight oil with a API service classification of SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL, or higher of any brand. Synthetic oil can be used after five hours of use.
The Toro Motor Company was founded in 1914 to supply motors to The Bull Tractor Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Toro name was chosen because of the relationship with The Bull company. The company shifted its focus to lawn mowers and developed the first motorized mower for golf courses called the Standard Golf Machine. MTD owns Toro as well as Murray, Troy-Bilt, Poulan, Yard Man, Bolens and Cub Cadet.
