What Kind of Makeup Did Hippies Wear?
According to Loreena, a self-proclaimed modern-day hippie, hippies typically do not wear makeup. On the rare occasion that hippies do wear makeup, they use products that are all natural, paraben-free, fragrance-free and not tested on animals.
Alice Langholt writes that the hippie look is “natural, comfortable, bohemian and free, without any frills.” She suggests, however, that it is ok to use makeup to boost the natural look when trying for the hippie look. Any makeup should be very natural in appearance, and it should appear as if there really isn’t any makeup applied at all. While mascara can be used to emphasize the eyes, eye shadow and eye liner are not an option as these produce too dramatic results. Clear gloss or natural lip shade can be used on the lips, and face paints can be used to draw peace signs or other hippie-style art on the cheek or above the eyebrow.
