How Do You Keep Cigars Fresh Without a Humidor?

To keep cigars fresh without a humidor, place the cigars in a large freezer bag, along with an open sandwich bag containing a moist sponge inside of it, then seal the larger bag. Make sure to store the bag in a dry environment, with stable temperature levels. You need a 1-gallon freezer bag, a sandwich bag, a sponge and a dry environment to store the cigars in.

  1. Create the storage receptacle

Place the cigars in the freezer bag. Wet a sponge, and squeeze it to remove excess liquid. Place the sponge inside a small sandwich bag. Place the sandwich bag inside of the freezer bag, and leave it open. Remove as much air from the freezer bag as you can, and seal it.

  2. Store the freezer bag in a dry environment

Store the bag of cigars in a dry and cool environment that is not susceptible to mold. Choose an indoor location that is most likely to remain at a steady temperature. Ensure that the environment remains at or around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and has a humidity level of around 70 percent.

  3. Maintain the storage receptacle

If storing the cigars short term, place the cigars in multiple bags lessen the impact opening and closing the bags has on the remaining cigars. For long-term use, the sponge will need to be re-moistened periodically to maintain humidity. Additionally, those who who do not smoke very often, make sure to open the bag of cigars for at least one hour once a month to circulate the air.
