The Uncas Manufacturing Company uses a U with an arrow through it as its hallmark, or jeweler's mark, on its sterling and costume jewelry. The company changed its original jeweler's mark and started using the symbol in the mid-1920s.
Uncas is a family-owned business that was founded in 1911. The company's headquarters is located in the state of Rhode Island with offices, showrooms and warehouses in California, Florida and Hong Kong, China.
The company was founded by Italian Immigrant Vincent Sorrentino, but its namesake belongs to the son of the last chief of the Mohican American Indian tribe from James Fenimore Cooper's historical novel, "The Last of the Mohicans."
