The ivy leaf of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority represents strong and lasting friendship. The association comes from the ivy leaf’s ability to attach to rocky terrain and still thrive.

Alpha Kappa Alpha women pride themselves on their inner strength, endurance and ability to handle pressure with grace. According to the sorority’s founders, the ivy leaf embodies these qualities perfectly. The other symbols of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority include the pearl necklace, the mirror and the pink tea rose. The pearl necklace represents the founders and those who carry on the legacy of the sorority, the mirror represents seeing the qualities that make a lady and the pink tea rose represents growing from under the shadows and becoming a serene lady.
