What Is an Invasion Game?
An invasion game is the term used to describe any type of strategy game in which the aim is to attack an opponent’s territory and score a goal or point. Invasion games are usually structured in teams with equal numbers of players on each team. Examples of this type of team games include football, rugby, basketball, soccer and hockey.
There are many types of invasion games, but each type is played with the similar principle of defending parts of a playing field, keeping possession, invasion and scoring. These games are normally fast-moving with hard physical contact between opposing players.
The play area is usually rectangular, and equal parts of it are assigned to each team. A team must defend its section of the playing field by keeping the opposing team’s score to a minimum. Each player in a team has a specific role in defending the team’s territory or attacking the opponent’s side of the playing field.
Playing invasion games requires the use of tactics to outsmart and overpower an opposing team, and it demands technical skills gained through training and experience. Generally, the team with the better speed and agility, attack technique, tactical plans and ability to anticipate problems and respond appropriately has the advantage in winning a game.
