What Is the Intersection of Each Column and Row Called?

The intersection of a vertical column and horizontal row is called a cell. The location, or address, of a specific cell is identified by using the headers of the column and row involved. For example, cell “F2” is located at the spot where column “F” and row “2” meet.

Users of Microsoft’s Excel spreadsheet software have many opportunities to work with cells, both individually and in groups. For example, a single cell is clicked on to select that cell, or the arrows keys are used to move to the address. To cancel cell selection, the user must click on any other cell within the spreadsheet.
