What Are the Ingredients of TRESemme Shampoo?
According to the TRESemme shampoo product description, the ingredients are: water, sodium laureth sulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine, glycol distearate, tocopheryl acetate, panthenol, niacinamide, biotin, ascorbic acid, cocamide mea, sodium chloride, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, polyquaternium-47, polysorbate 20 and disodium edta. The shampoo also contains DMDM hydantoin and fragrance.
TRESemme hair care products were first manufactured in St. Louis, Mo., in 1947. The name phonetically translates from French to “well-loved.” Initially, TRESemme was only marketed toward salons, but it is now sold by various retailers.
The TRESemme manufacturer warns that some of the ingredients in the shampoo may cause eye irritation. For example, sodium laureth sulfate, the first ingredient listed on TRESemme shampoo packaging, is an inexpensive anionic detergent. Sodium laureth sulfate is an irritant that can cause a burning sensation if the product gets in the eyes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration also recommends that products using this detergent monitor the composition for high amounts of 1,4-Dioxane. In California, 1,4-Dioxane is classified as a carcinogen linked to organ toxicity.
Many different ingredients are used, so TRESemme shampoo provides various beautifying effects. For example, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride adds conditioning properties. This compound has been proven to detangle hair, making it easier to comb.
