What Are the Ingredients in O’Keeffe’s Working Hands Hand Cream?

The main ingredients in O’Keeffe’s Working Hands hand cream are water, glycerin, stearic acid, ammonium stearate, ammonium borate, and dimethicone. Other ingredients include ceteth-10, laureth-4, paraffin wax, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, allantoin, octyldodectl stearate, diazolidinyl urea and iodopropynyl butylcarbamate.

The first two ingredients in O’Keeffe’s Working Hands hand cream are water and glycerin. Manufacturers often use these ingredients together in skin care products because of their ability to moisturize and penetrate skin cells. The water re-hydrates the skin whereas the glycerin, a humectant, draws water into the top layer of the skin, reducing dryness.

O’Keeffe’s Working Hands hand cream contains fewer ingredients overall than other similar products. However, it does contain higher concentrations of intensely moisturizing ingredients, such as paraffin wax, dimethicone and allantoin. Allantoin contains alpha hydroxy acids that soften keratin, reinforce the outermost layer of skin, and facilitate the removal process of dead skin cells from the surface. It also increases the smoothness of the skin while helping it to retain more moisture.

The Environmental Working Group has deemed some ingredients in O’Keeffe’s Working Hands hand cream possibly toxic. However, the group rates this cream as having an overall hazard level of low, meaning it is most likely safe for regular use.
