The ingredients in Ivory soap include perfume, magnesium sulfate, sodium chloride, water, sodium tallowate, sodium cocoate, sodium palm kernelate and sodium silicates. The newer Ivory soap bars use heavier fragrances to create the aloe and lavender scents.
The pureness of original Ivory soap is the reason given for why the bar floats in the water. There are no harsh ingredients or chemicals that react with the water and cause it to sink. Ivory soap ran analysis tests back in the 1800s to determine the purity of the soap when compared to castile soap, the benchmark for purity in the 19th century.
