Why Are Hot Cheetos Bad for You?
Hot Cheetos are considered a bad diet choice due to the fact that they are high in fat and sodium and contain multiple artificial ingredients. Hot Cheetos also contain high levels of artificial spice and monosodium glutamate, commonly referred to as MSG. The spice in Hot Cheetos and other popular snack items is a common cause of gastrointestinal upset, particularly in children who consume these snacks in excess.
Multiple school districts throughout the United States have banned Hot Cheetos as an approved snack due to the fact that they provide minimal nutritional value. Gastrointestinal symptoms caused by Hot Cheetos include vomiting, acid reflux, bloating, burning and hiccups. Symptoms can be eased with antacid medications and eliminating spicy snack foods from the diet.
Research studies also show that the ingredients in Hot Cheetos and other spicy snacks may trigger a brain response that is similar to addiction. Hot Cheetos are bright red in color, and there have been multiple reports by parents that the spicy snacks have caused red stools in their children, in turn creating a fear that their children were bleeding internally. Excessive consumption of Hot Cheetos can also lead to high blood pressure and dehydration due to the high sodium content.
