How Do You Hook up a Blu-Ray Player to a Television and Cable Box?
Connect a Blu-ray player to a TV and a cable box by hooking both devices into the TV. This enables you to use the Blu-ray player or the cable box just by changing the input selections on your TV.
-
Connect the TV to the cable box
Using component cables, a DVI video cable or an HDMI cable, insert one end of the cable into the cable box and the other into the TV. HDMI and DVI video cables only have one plug on each end, but component cables have three plugs on each end. Each of these plugs is a different color, such as red, blue and green, and needs to be matched to the correct color plugins on both devices.
-
Setup the audio if using component cables for video
Since the component cable only works for video output, it is necessary to hook up an audio connection by inserting the red and white stereo cable plugs into the corresponding plugins on both devices.
-
Connect your TV to the Blu-ray player
Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI output connection on the Blu-ray player, and plug the other end into the HDMI input connection on the TV. Use a component video cable if the TV does not have an HDMI connection slot and if the Blu-ray player has component connections.
