What Are Some Home Remedies to Kill Wasps?
Liquid dish detergent, water and homemade traps can be used to kill wasps. When using home remedies to kill wasps, work during the early evening to prevent stings.
To kill wasps with dish detergent, mix one-fourth cup detergent and water in a hose-end sprayer and spray the nest at night. If the nest is located in an easily accessible area, the wasps can be killed with plain water. To drown a nest, wait until dusk and quickly place a plastic bag around the nest. Tie the bag closed around the nest, then place the bag into a bucket of water. Weigh the bag down with rocks or bricks and allow it to remain undisturbed overnight before discarding.
Empty plastic bottles can be turned into homemade wasp traps. To make a wasp trap, cut the bottle about quarter of the way down from the lid opening, discard the cap and spread jam around the outside of the lid opening. In the bottom section of the bottle, add water until the bottle is about half full, then add one-fourth cup white vinegar and a few drops of dish detergent. Place the lid section of the bottle upside-down in the bottom section of the bottle – the lid opening should be pointed toward the bottom of the bottle. The wasps are attracted by the jam, but typically they cannot fly out of the bottle after entering the trap.
