Last Updated Mar 25, 2020 10:50:59 PM ET
A high profile vehicle refers to semi trucks with light trailers, vans, SUVs and light trucks. Any vehicle that has a large surface area that can be exposed to cross winds is a high profile vehicle.
In high wind situations, alerts will be addressed to high profile vehicles because the class is prone to rolling over and rapid lane travel. The risk to drivers is dependent on the weight, wind speed and center of gravity of the vehicle. Each state's department of transportation has different laws pertaining to the use of roadways after a restriction or travel ban has been issued.
