Hershey’s Kisses were the first addition to the Hershey’s brand after the Hershey’s chocolate bar was introduced. Every Kiss was originally hand-wrapped before the introduction of the machine-wrapping process in 1921. It is thought that the candies got the name Hershey’s Kisses due to a noise that the machine made during the packaging procedure. In 1924, the flag atop the Kiss was trademarked.
