The height of the net in men's volleyball is 7 feet 11 5/8 inches, and in women's volleyball, it is 7 feet 4 1/8 inches. Official nets are 32 feet long and 39 inches tall.
The height measurement is made in the center of the net. The sides of the net can't be more than 3/4 inches higher than regulation height. For co-ed games, the net is set at the men's height. Players are not allowed to touch the net during the game. Volleyball was created by William G. Morgan in 1895 as a less physical alternative to basketball. The first volleyball net was borrowed from a tennis court and was set at 6 feet 6 inches high. Volleyball became an Olympic sport in 1964.
