The happy family dish is a Chinese stir fry typically made with beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, lobster or crab meat and scallops mixed with vegetables. These vegetables often include carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, baby corn, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots.
The happy family dish is served in a brown sauce, and in most cases it is served with white rice. A similar dish originates from the Philippines and is called chop suey. It does not typically contain as many ingredients as those in the happy family dish; however, it also consists of a mixture of meats and vegetables. Chop suey is served with rice or noodles.
