What Happened to Norma Bell?

Norma Bell, friend of Mary Bell and co-conspirator in the deaths of two young boys in Scotswood, England, was tried and found innocent of manslaughter in 1968 and died in 1989. Mary Bell was convicted of manslaughter, served 12 years in prison and has since lived under various pseudonyms.

Norma Joyce Bell, no relation to Mary Flora Bell, was 13 years old at the time of the murders and subsequent arrest. Both girls were arrested on August 5, 1968. Both Mary and Norma took part in the strangulation death of 3-year-old Brian Howe. The police determined a letter N was carved into his stomach with a razor, which was changed by a different hand into the letter M.
