What Is the Gross Weight of the Average Chevy Silverado?

The 2015 Chevy Silverado has a gross vehicle weight rating, or GVWR, of 9,500 lbs. This is the maximum operating weight as specified by the manufacturer. The gross value weight rating does not reflect the vehicle’s actual weight; rather, it represents a limit.

Gross value weight rating should not be confused with “curb weight,” which is the total weight of a vehicle, excluding the weight of any occupants or cargo. Knowing the GVWR is important because it states the maximum weight of passengers and cargo that can be safely carried in an SUV or truck. The gross value weight rating includes the vehicle’s body, engine, engine fluids, fuel and accessories, in addition to the weight of the driver, passengers and cargo, but excludes the weight of any trailers.
