What Is a Graphic Feature?

Graphic features are pictures and other images that accompany a piece of text to enhance its meaning for the reader. Some examples of graphic features include photographs, drawing, maps, charts and diagrams.

While graphic features may sometimes be purely decorative, they are more often used to make the meaning of a text clearer. Data may be accompanied by a graph or chart that allows the reader to grasp its basic meaning at a glance, or a written description may include a picture as a graphic feature. Graphic features are most often found in textbooks, reports or other pieces of writing that have to convey a great deal of information.
