What Are Some Good Themes for a Black Family Reunion?

A good theme for a black family reunion is the history of the family. Among the activities that could be emphasized under this theme are family record exchanges, family history photo swapping and family trivia games.

A theme that stresses traditional African-American gospel and R&B music is inspirational for family reunion. Old- and new-school gospel and R&B music could be played at the reunion, and CDs of popular artists who perform in these genres of music can be distributed.

Many African-American families belong to Black Greek Letter Organizations, so this would make a great theme for a black family reunion. Family members could be encouraged to wear hats and T-shirts that honor their Black Greek Letter Organizations, and memorabilia regarding the BGLOs could be exchanged.

A Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day holiday celebration is another good theme for black family reunions. Juneteenth is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth, the date that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery throughout the Confederate South in 1865.

A special birthday party to honor the oldest member of the family is an outstanding theme for a black family reunion as well.
