What Is a Good Substitute for Worcestershire Sauce?
A good substitute for Worcestershire sauce will depend on the ingredients that are available; however, using an equal amount of soy sauce or other substitution with soy sauce and tamari might be suitable. These substitution recipes combine basic ingredients to form strong substitutes that can be used for health reasons or for practical reasons.
The soy sauce substitute recipe asks for 3/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons Barbados molasses, 2 tablespoons low-sodium tamarind concentrate, 1 tablespoon lime juice, 1 tablespoon malt, 1 warm chili, 1.5 nutmeg seeds, 1-inch square of lemon peel and 6 cloves. These should all be mixed together and then allowed to boil for 8-10 minutes on high. Let it sit for one day and then strain it for the finished product.
The tamari substitute recipe asks that a 1/4 cup of tamari, 6 tablespoons brown rice syrup, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of barley malt syrup, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 6 tablespoons water,1/8 teaspoon cayenne, 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic and a pinch of onion powder and ground cloves be mixed together in a food processor. Once the mixture is smooth, it can be poured into a glass jar and refrigerated. It is best to let this mixture sit for a few days so that the taste can fully develop.
