The average score on the DAT is 17, which is in the 50th percentile, while the average score for applicants who matriculated into dental school in 2012 is 19.9. A DAT score might be good enough for admission to one dental school but below the admission requirements of another school.
DAT scores are reported as a set of eight standard scores with six individual scores covering biology, organic chemistry, general chemistry, reading comprehension, perceptual ability and quantitative reasoning. Academic average and total science make up the remaining two scores. A GPA of at least 3.5 is also required for admission to dental school.
