Which GE Washer and Dryer Models Have Been Recalled?

The models of General Electric washers and dryers that have been recalled are the GE Profile front-load washers, GE 2006 gas dryer and Unitized Spacemaker. All of the models were deemed unsafe by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The GE Profile front-load washing machines manufactured between December 2006 and February 2010 were voluntarily recalled on June 10, 2010. The recall occurred because of seven instances of flames escaping the machine and causing smoke damage due to a broken wire in the machines.

The limited 2008-2010 models of the GE Profile front-load washing machine manufactured between April 2008 and October 2010 were recalled on Oct. 3, 2010. The machine was potentially dangerous because the washer’s basket could separate, breach the top panel of the machine and cause injury. There were 10 consumer reports of this occurrence, but none caused injury.

The 2006 model of GE’s gas dryer was recalled on Feb. 11, 2008 due to the danger of customers receiving shocks because of a short circuit in the machine’s wiring. GE’s 2002 models of the Unitized Spacemaker, a unit that combined a washer and a gas dryer, were recalled on July 2, 2002. The machines were in danger of catching on fire.
