What Are Some Gas Station Chains That Sell 100-Octane Gas?
Last Updated Apr 9, 2020 9:04:45 AM ET
Sunoco is the only national chain that sells 100-octane gasoline directly to the public. Map locations, both on raceways and off, are available on Sunoco's website, RaceGas.com/FuelFinder.
The octane rating of gasoline refers to its resistance to detonation or ability to burn well. The higher the rating, the more resistance it has and the harder it is to burn. High-performance race cars and piston-powered airplanes are the few engine types recommended for 100-octane gasoline. Vehicles designed to use pump-gas (91 octane or lower) have decreased power due to incomplete burning of gas. The price of 100-octane gasoline is, on average, five times the price of lower octane fuels.
