What Is the Function of Windows Explorer?
The main function of Windows Explorer is to provide a graphic interface to navigate the hard drive and display the contents of the sub folders and folders used to organize files on the hard disk. It also allows users to copy, move, delete, rename and generally perform tasks relating to folders and files.
Windows Explorer also incorporates a search feature that allows users to easily search for and locate files on the hard drive whenever they are unsure of file locations. This helps to save time when looking for specific files and folders.
The quickest way to access Windows Explorer is by right-clicking the start menu and selecting “Explore” or “Open Windows Explorer.” Alternatively, it can be launched by clicking the Windows logo plus the E key on the keyboard. It can also be accessed from the start menu or Accessories. All versions of Windows since Windows 95 are equipped with Windows Explorer. Since it was developed, Windows Explorer has been a key part of Windows.
Located in the C:Windows directory, Windows Explorer is sometimes called explorer.exe, Windows shell, file explorer or simply Explorer. More experienced use may opt to use the Command Prompt line as an alternative for navigating the various files, folders and sub folders on a hard drive.
