The mango is the most commonly eaten fruit around the world. While Americans are most familiar with apples, oranges, and bananas, over 2,000 different types of mangoes are consumed throughout the world. Mangoes are eaten in countless different ways, including in juices, chutneys, pies, ice cream and dried cereals.
The mango is a tropical fruit grown primarily in South Asia, as well as various other areas throughout the Southern Hemisphere. India, China and Mexico are the largest worldwide producers of mangoes. Like many other fruits, mangoes are rich in vitamins C and E, beta carotene, niacin, iron and potassium.
