The four data processing functions of a computer are data input, processing, output and storage. Each process serves a distinct function in data handling, and each function makes use of specific hardware to facilitate its operation.
The standard flow of data for a computer begins with data input from a keyboard or another input device. The data is then processed by the CPU, according to the software being used. The data then outputs to the user via a monitor or another display device. If the user decides to save the data, the storage function comes into play, and the user can save the data for later use.
