What Does “FNP-C” Mean As a Medical Title?

According to the University of Toledo’s College of Nursing, an FNP-C is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, a nurse who has completed a master’s degree in nursing and has become certified as having specialized knowledge in the field. Roles of the FNP-C depend on the state that grants the license.
According to the University of Cincinnati, family nurse practitioners may have responsibilities that include diagnosing and treating patients for acute and chronic illnesses, conducting physical examinations, and, in some states, prescribing pharmacological treatments. Some may be able to perform minor surgeries. Family nurse practitioners provide both primary and specialty care services for children and adults.
