What Is Filloxane?

Filloxane is a shampoo ingredient that serves as a hair thickener. The compound is only found in L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Volume Filler products. It thickens the hair by penetrating the strands and expanding the hair from within.

Filloxane works in the same way as the silica gel that is used to seal cracks in chipped car windscreens. Its molecules infiltrate through the hair cuticles and bind to the hair proteins microfibrils found inside the fiber. This increases the diameter and the volume of the hair strands, thereby making the hair more rigid and thicker.

Filloxane has a long-lasting effect on hair thickness and can remain in the fiber even after the hair has been washed several times. It is compatible with colored hair.
