Islam is the fastest growing religion in the United States and throughout the world, as of 2015. Seven million Muslims live in America, half of which were born in the United States, with 1.6 billion Muslims throughout the world.
Known for having the oldest mosque in the United States, Sacramento alone houses 35,000 Muslims and nine mosques. Worldwide, researchers anticipate that the number of Muslims is going to grow to 2.8 billion by 2050, reflecting a 73 percent increase in population. Reasons for this population growth include the young median age of followers, the higher rates of children born into the Muslim faith, and the concentration of Muslims in areas projected to see the fastest growth over the next 40 years.
