According to fairy folklore experts, fairies prefer natural foods, with pixie pears and mallow fruits being their favorites. Fairies love foods that are sweet and are prepared with saffron. Among fairies’ favorite foods are milk with honey, plain milk, sweet butter and honey cakes.

The same fairy folklore experts say that if these fairy foods are left outside the kitchen, the fairies will help themselves to it. Although it will seem that the food is untouched, fairies may have already feasted on it or were nourished with the essence of the food.

Fairies are mythological creatures that originated from old European folklore. People who believe in the folklore also refer to them as “wee folk,” “fair folk” or “people of peace.” Modern popular renditions of fairies often picture them as small, winged humanoid creatures. Traditional European folklore, however, describe them either as being tall and angelic or short but wise trolls.

There are several types of fairies and they include butterfly fairies, dryads, flower fairies, cloud fairies and earth fairies. Butterfly fairies are called such because their wings resemble those of butterflies, and they are often mistaken for butterflies. In contrast to the typical rendition of fairies, dryads are only seen as beings of light and are exclusively females. Cloud fairies resemble cloud formations, earth fairies are short and flower fairies supposedly bring luck to kind and gentle people.
