What Are the Factors of 14?
The factors of 14 are 1, 2, 7 and 14. Some numbers only have one factor, while other numbers, including 14, have more than one.
Factors are numbers that are evenly divided into each other. To find a factor, determine which numbers can divide the number in question equally. Using 14, 1 divides evenly into 14 exactly 14 times, and 2 divides 14 equally 7 times. This means that the factors of 14 are 1, 2, 7 and 14. Because all numbers are equally divisible by themselves, the pairing of 1 and the number itself is generally left out of the factoring. A number that is only divisible by 1 and itself is called a prime number.
The listing of all the factors of a number is called factoring. One method of listing all the factors of a number is called a factor tree. Each number has two lines that branch from it to show its factors. As the factors are added, the branches increase, and the figures begin to look similar to a tree. Between the numbers 1 and 100, there is a three-way tie between 72, 84 and 96 for the most factors. All three have 10, not including 1 and the number itself.
