What Are Eyelash Extensions?
Last Updated Apr 16, 2020 8:18:07 PM ET

Eyelash extensions are synthetic, silk or mink false eyelashes that are applied individually to make natural lashes appear longer and fuller. Typically done at a salon, attaching a full set takes a couple of hours. The lashes should be touched up every three to four weeks to maintain their appearance.
To secure the extensions, a stylist uses special semi-permanent glue. Though most people find it non-irritating, several types are available in the event of a chemical sensitivity.
The number of lashes added depends upon the condition of the natural lashes. If they are sparse and thin, a full set of extensions are not recommended in order to avoid damaging the actual lashes. Half sets are often applied in these cases.
