As of 2014, the most expensive car sold at an auction was a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which sold for $34.65 million. The same model was sold in a private sale for $52 million. The most expensive car produced in 2014 is the Lamborghini Veneno, which costs $4 million.
A limited number of both cars were produced: 36 of the Ferrari GTO and three of the Lamborghini Veneno. Nine roadster versions of the Veneno were also created and cost an additional $500,000. The Veneno has 750 horsepower, reaches 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed near 220 miles per hour.
