What Does the Equal Sign Bumper Sticker Mean?
Equal sign bumper stickers stand for the Human Rights Campaign. This is an organization that promotes fairness and equal rights for members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
The logo of a yellow equal sign inside a blue square was adopted by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in 1995 as part of a branding campaign to parallel the organization’s reorganization. Founded in 1980 as a fund to support pro-fairness congressional candidates, the campaign broadened it’s lobbying and political action committee to include a Workplace Project and a Family Project. With over 1.5 million members and supporters, the HRC is now the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for GLBT Americans.
